8 Most Popular Objections Why People Don’t Want to Lift Weights and Why You Should Do It Anyway

People ask on the gym floor all the time: “How can I lose weight? I do classes every day, I eat healthy, etc., etc., but I’m not losing any.” The answer is: start lifting weights and follow a plan, which translates to get on a progressive workout plan and a diet; otherwise you’ll just keep hitting a plateau and no matter what healthy foods you eat, you won’t lose any weight aka fat. Then I hear those most ridiculous myths about lifting weights, I mean I’m still pretty surprised with almost everyone connected to the internet these days that people don’t know what to do. There are many trainers available in every gym, if you don’t know how to make progress, just get a trainer; if you can’t afford a trainer regularly, at least get a few sessions here and there so you know what you’re doing. Anyway, since the affliction towards lifting weights that many people have is what really bothers me, here I came up with:

8 most popular objections/excuses for not lifting weights in the gym and why you should do it anyway

  1. It will make me bulky – no, it won’t, especially not overnight and not without dedicating your whole life to this goal for many years
  2. I don’t want to build muscle – why not? Most likely you are already pretty skinny and weak; with age it will only add more issues to your health since losing muscle with age is a normal thing, so actually adding muscle helps you stay lean and healthy and it slows the aging process of your body.
  3. I lift weights but don’t see any progress – you don’t lift them properly, your training is probably a pure freestyle without any planning behind it
  4. I’m/ I was injured – well, lifting weights PROPERLY and stretching helps with strengthening muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones, which is the quickest way to regain full mobility and strength
  5. I’m scared I can get hurt – get a trainer to teach you I’m a girl, I only want to do girly exercises – No such thing as girly exercises despite all the YouTube videos. Girls that do home workout videos also lift weights in the gym but they won’t tell you about it.
  6. Everybody’s looking at me on the gym floor – I hear it a lot from female gym members mostly but the truth is everyone in the gym is mostly concentrated on their own workout
  7. I’m scared of the big guys in the free weight area – they are usually the nicest guys in the gym who have a lot of experience willing to share

Those are the objections I hear all the time. Really, people, it only takes a little education and you can get leaner, fitter, or stronger in no time! As long as you know what you’re doing:)
